Natural mattresses: should you buy one for your baby?

Posted by Meltem Aktürk on

When preparing your baby's room, the crib mattress is one of the most important investments. She will grow with your child in the next few years! And while you might think that a natural mattress is always best, you might want to reconsider.

In this article, the experts at sproutling will show you how our mattresses compare to natural mattresses. We also uncover the hidden disadvantages of organic mattresses so you can better understand the sprouting difference.

What is a natural baby mattress?

Natural mattresses are defined as free of synthetic materials that have not been treated with chemicals and that meet organic standards.

Is organic always best?

The simple answer: no. Even if a product is marketed as “organic,” that does not necessarily mean that ALL of its materials are organic. Labeling can often be misleading. Natural materials are also not breathable. For this reason, natural mattresses are not as safe as they could be and often have to take a back seat to sprouting.

What makes our mattresses different:

  • Air-permeable structure
  • Made from safe, food grade polymer
  • No outgassing
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Fully washable
  • Recyclable

Natural mattress:

Mattresses labeled as organic are sometimes not fully organic and often have hidden disadvantages, such as not being breathable or washable.

Some disadvantages of natural mattresses are:

  • They are sealed in airtight, plastic, waterproof covers that are not breathable
  • They may contain latex, which can cause latex allergies
  • They are not washable, so mold, bacteria and dust mites often accumulate

As you can see, there are big differences between natural mattresses and sprouting mattresses. Remember that organic mattresses also have disadvantages and “organic” does not necessarily mean “best” or “safest”.

To choose the safest mattress for your baby, look for one that is firm and breathable. Since your baby will spend most of their time in their crib (newborns sleep around 18 hours a day!), breathability is extremely important.
With our 3D baby mattress you can rest assured that your baby will sleep safely and healthily at all times!
